The award of the BBB 2020 December Member of the Month goes to the mountain of a man, Lachlan Perks! Lachlan Has been a member of the BBB Family since July 2019 and his drive and pursuit of excellence quickly grabbed our attention.
Lachy is 44 years old, married with 3 children and is the co-founder of a funds management business. When he is not playing super dad or working Lachy is surfski paddling. He trains with a group at 5.30am 3 mornings a week all year round – rain, hail or shine, even in the middle of winter in the pitch black with headlamps!! In 2019 he participated in the Molokai Challenge which is a 53km open ocean paddling race from the island of Molokai to the island of Oahu in Hawaii across the infamous “Channel of Bones”.
These days his primary focus for his training is longevity. With 3 young children his goal is to still be fit and mobile in 10, 20 and hopefully even 30 years-time so that he can still do things like walk the Kokoda Trail, do the Molokai Challenge or snowboard the backcountry with them when they are in their late-teens and 20’s.
But even Lachy admits he still had some fears before joining BBB, fears like not being fit or strong enough and not being able to perform the higher skilled movements (sound familiar?). After only a few sessions this fear quickly subsided once realising the vast demographic in each class. “The programming is infinitely scalable and there is a regression for every movement.”
“I came to realise that for an exercise regime to be sustainable for the long term it needed to be interesting, enjoyable and varied. I couldn’t just continue going through the motions at a regular gym”
So what’s next for Mr. December? “I am just looking to continue having regular “small wins”. There are a couple of skill-based elements that are preventing me from completing some metcons at Rx level (double under for one) so sorting those things out is a continuing focus of mine.”
Good lucky Lachy and Congradulations!
