Taking out the incredibly desirable accolade of the first ever BBB Bondi Member of the month is Kirk Mcneil!
Kirk has been a member of BBB Bondi for a hot minute, being one of the first foundation members to join when we opened post lockdown. Coming to us with an intermediate level of experience in hypertrophy training he was keen to challenge himself in a group environment performing lifts he had not tried before.
Kirk was thinking of joining BBB for a while before lockdown, but the new location closer to his home made him pull the trigger. Like most of our members he was a bit nervous about joining a new gym and a new style of training, “Looking through the guides (Level Method) that Brando has put together really sets out what your skill level in certain exercises might be. So I knew I was good at some things, not so good at others and there were a few things I’d never done before which made me interested in how I’d adapt to this type of environment”.
He is now a staple of the 5:30 am crew and rarely misses a session which is very impressive as Kirk himself says he is not a morning person. His consistency has taken him from never doing any olympic lifting prior to BBB to now being able to throw around some tin in a class WOD setting! “The onboarding sessions were really helpful and gave me confidence I could jump into a class setting”.
So what’s next for Kirk? After now seeing the depth of the functional fitness space and Crossfit within it he wants to improve across the board and “get the techniques down pat”in the foundational movements, “I still have my training wheels on”. Members like Kirk who see training as a journey not a race towards a better version of themselves make BBB an awesome training environment!
“I aim to improve my technique and ability every time I come into a class. If I get 1% better each class, hopefully by the end of the year I will have some good progression”
Congratulations on a well deserved MOTM!
